The main reason I’ve hated working so much since May 15 may not be what you think. True, I didn’t have time for blogging or reading much. I didn’t like getting up earlier. I was tired at the end of the day. I didn’t sleep as well. But the main reason I hated it was that I gained five pounds.
I haven’t exactly declared that Hazel Becker Editing & Publishing Services is open for business again. However, I have agreed to do a project for a neighbor and she has agreed to pay me for doing it. I’m not sure what this means!
Well, “no” may be an exaggeration – but generally, yes, that’s what I love most about retirement. I could have a very busy schedule if I wanted to. There are so many wonderful things to do in Washington, D.C., and I have lots of friends, many of them also retired, with whom I promise to make plans “soon.” But truth be told, I love my leisurely life just as it is – at least for now.
I’m amazed at how little I knew about Social Security before I applied for retirement benefits earlier this week. For example, I knew that there were limits on how much earned income you could receive while drawing your full SS benefit if you retire before your “full retirement” age – in my case, 66. What I didn’t know is that once you reach full retirement age, they give you back all the money they docked you during that time. I had pretty much decided already to file, but that knowledge tipped me over the edge.
